This morning Queensland Child Safety Ambassadors Bruce and Denise Morcombe are delivering a Child Safety presentation to students at Chevallum State School.
Chevallum State School has supported the Daniel Morcombe Foundation for many years. In more recent years (2019, 2020 and 2021) the school participated in the Day for Daniel Funraiser and raised over $35,000 for the Foundation.
Denise Morcombe said “We are really grateful for the support that Chevallum State School and the local community has provided to the Foundation over many years. We really wanted to show our appreciation and thought a child safety presentation was the best way to do this.”
Bruce Morcombe said “Our aim is to reinforce key child safety messages. We educate kids to recognise unsafe situations, how to react and encourage them to report these incidents to their safety helpers.”
The Principal of Chevallum State School, Linda Short said, “Denise and Bruce Morcombe visited Chevallum State School to present a Child Safety education program to students in Years 3 to 6. The program was delivered with sensitivity and conveyed some important messages and advice regarding child safety. Instilling personal safety skills and strategies in children can help them build confidence and resilience, and ultimately help keep them safe. Over the years Chevallum State School has supported the Daniel Morcombe Foundation through fundraising events like Day for Daniel. As part of the local community, it has always been a cause close to our heart.”
Established in 2005, the Foundation creates free educational resources to educate children about their personal safety and to help stop child sexual abuse. These resources give children the tools necessary to keep themselves safe in unsafe situations.
Day for Daniel is the Foundation’s national day of action on child safety and protection. It is the largest child safety education and awareness day of its type in Australia. Now in its 19th year, pre-registrations online are at record levels with final numbers expected to reach over 6,500 schools and early learning centres, also hundreds of businesses and events. It is anticipated that over 1.5 million people across Australia will hold a conversation about child safety on that day.
Parents, carers, educators can visit the Daniel Morcombe Foundation website for resources and information
