Dance for Daniel 2021

Tonight’s Dance for Daniel is well timed with the conversation around child sexual abuse making national and international headlines.

The Daniel Morcombe Foundation has been working for 16 years to help protect children and stop the abuse. Bruce and Denise Morcombe are calling for far greater early intervention.

Denise Morcombe said “How amazing would it be if we could reduce the instances of child sexual abuse before it has occurred?  We believe the time is right push for greater commitment to funding preventative measures.  For too long the focus has almost exclusively been on responses after the abuse.”

Bruce Morcombe said “Working in a collaborative way will achieve the best outcomes in protecting children from abuse and harm.”

Guest speakers include Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk, Home Affairs Minister the Hon. Peter Dutton and Police Commissioner Katarina Carroll APM.  Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner will also attend.

Established in 2005, the Foundation creates free educational resources to educate children about personal safety and to help stop child sexual abuse.  These resources give children the tools necessary to keep themselves safe in unsafe situations.

With all levels of Government represented tonight, Denise Morcombe said, “We need Federal, State and Territory governments to collaborate in the development of a robust sexual abuse prevention strategy. As a priority, together we must build the fence at the top of the cliff and not be the ambulance at the bottom of it.”

Last year’s dance on March 14th, was one of the last Gala events held before COVID-19 restrictions came into play on March 16th 2020, it is now one of the first Gala events back in 2021, albeit with 440 guests, capped due to COVID-19.  Guests will be treated to a superb 3 course meal, beverages, an auction and excellent entertainment.

The Dance for Daniel is the Daniel Morcombe Foundation’s major fundraising event of the year. These funds are used to further our aims of (1) educating children about personal safety, (2) assisting victims of crime particularly where that crime involves children.
