Australia’s Biggest Child Safety Lesson

In one week, on Thursday June 25 at 10.00am (AEST), the Daniel Morcombe Foundation will LIVE stream Australia’s Biggest Child Safety Lesson (ABCSL) to primary school students across Australia. The 25 minute educational lesson will focus specifically on online safety skills, including expert advice from Australia’s  eSafety Commissioner.

Denise Morcombe said “Children are spending more time than ever before onlineABCSL will teach children aged 8 to12 to recognise, react and report unsafe situations online and address unwanted contact, protecting personal information and cyberbullying”.

Australia’s Biggest Child Safety Lesson makes teaching personal safety easy: it provides a plug-in and play safety lesson on its own or teachers, parents and carers can use the extension activities provided to further the conversation.

Bruce Morcombe said “We know that it works. Last year feedback indicated that at least 10% of educators who participated received a disclosure of harm from a child”.

The video includes children’s perspectives about the online world. We recognise kids have grown up with technology and they are often very savvy. However, there’s still a lot we can all learn about being safer online

Kids also want to be taken seriously when talking about safety so we’ve included an interview with Australia’s eSafety Commissioner about the risks of being online

Last year’s ABCSL was viewed by more 350,000 children. In response to the demand for additional resources, the Foundation is this year producing two versions of ABCSL: the first for children aged 8 to12 to be live streamed on Thursday 25 June and the second designed for children aged 4 to 7 to be live streamed on Thursday 10 September.
